Las Vegas airport offers travel tips ahead of F1, Thanksgiving weekend

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — With the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix kicking off just a weekend before the Thanksgiving holiday, Harry Reid International Airport is gearing up for a busy travel period.

Here are some travel tips from Harry Reid Airport for those planning to fly in and out of Las Vegas in the coming weeks.

Heading to and from Harry Reid International Airport

Harry Reid International Airport sits just two miles from the F1 circuit on the Las Vegas Strip. Nearby road closures and detours will affect access to the airport during the race. If you are using rideshare or taxi services, allow extra travel time and confirm pickup zones in advance.

To stay informed on traffic related to the F1 race, text “F1LV” to 31996 for race-related traffic alerts.

Parking

If you are planning on parking at Harry Reid International Airport, you can reserve your spot early online. Daily rates are $28 at Terminal 1 (Level 2M) and $21 at Terminal 3 (Level 1).

If the Terminal 1 Economy Lot fills up, travelers may be directed to the overflow lot at 576 Kitty Hawk Way or the Remote Lot near the Rent-A-Car Center at 7140 Gillespie Street. If you are directed to an overflow or remote lot, allow at least 30 extra minutes for shuttle service.

Terminal 3 usually has more parking available. Those without checked bags can use the tram from Terminal 3 to get to the D Concourse gates, even if their airline is at Terminal 1.

4-3-2-1 Plan

After the Las Vegas Grand Prix and holiday weekends, outbound travel is expected to reach higher levels. Harry Reid Airport recommends travelers to follow the 4-3-2-1 Plan:

4 Hours Before Departure: Arrange ground transportation or return your rental car.

3 Hours Before Departure: Check your bags with your airline.

2 Hours Before Departure: Enter the TSA checkpoint line.

1 Hour Before Departure: Be at your gate and ready to board

Additional Tips

Make sure to check your flight status early and verify your departure time and gate location at HarryReidAirport.com or through your airline’s app.

Remember to pack smart. Keep medications, chargers, and essentials in your carry-on in case of weather or traffic delays.

Review what can and cannot be brought through security at TSA.gov.

Are you picking up or dropping off travelers? You can wait in the Cell Phone Lot for free from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. Short-term parking is ideal for quick pickups and the first 15 minutes are free.

For safety and flow, vehicles may not idle curbside.

And last but not least, be prepared for the unexpected. November in Las Vegas will bring heavy travel demand, limited parking availability and congestion around major events. Arrive early, stay patient and enjoy a safe and memorable trip.
