Red Sea Global (RSG), the developer of the pioneering regenerative tourism resorts The Red Sea and AMAALA, has confirmed the opening of the first resorts and attractions on Shura Island in the coming weeks. Shura Island is a central element of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and the country’s ambitious target of economic diversification and sustainable tourism. This first phase will see the opening of SLS, EDITION, and InterContinental hotels, as well as the launch of Shura Links, the kingdom’s first island golf course.

The entire resort development of Shura Island will ultimately comprise 11 resorts of international quality, with openings taking place over the coming months. Once complete, the island will provide tourists unparalleled access to unspoiled natural scenery, high-end accommodations, signature activities, and upscale amenities.

Sustainable Luxury and Regenerative Tourism

Shura Island is not just about luxury; it also sets a new benchmark for sustainable tourism. Powered entirely by renewable energy, the island is part of Saudi Arabia’s broader effort to promote eco-friendly travel. The development uses advanced water management systems, eco-friendly materials, and energy-efficient designs to minimize environmental impact while offering the finest in luxury accommodations and experiences.

Shura Island stands as a key symbol for Red Sea Global’s commitment to regenerative tourism. According to John Pagano, Group CEO of Red Sea Global, the soft opening of Shura Island marks a significant step in setting new standards for tourism in Saudi Arabia and beyond. “Shura Island represents everything Red Sea Global stands for: bold ambition, deep respect for nature, and a commitment to redefining tourism in Saudi Arabia,” Pagano said.

World-Class Resorts and Luxurious Amenities

Phase one of the Shura Island launch will introduce three high-end resorts. SLS Red Sea blends natural beauty with bold design and features 150 luxurious rooms and villas, including both beachfront and overwater options. Guests will enjoy curated cultural, wellness, and leisure experiences, making it a perfect destination for travelers seeking relaxation and adventure.

The Red Sea EDITION offers a modern luxury retreat with 240 rooms, including 53 suites. Guests will enjoy access to a world-class spa, diverse dining options, watersports, and an island golf course. InterContinental The Red Sea Resort is a five-star resort, offering 178 rooms and 32 suites. It provides barefoot luxury with five dining venues, a spa, and event spaces. Its design draws inspiration from the surrounding coral reefs, emphasizing harmony with nature.

Shura Island: A Unique Island Golf Experience

Another standout feature of Shura Island is Shura Links, Saudi Arabia’s first island golf course, set to open in September 2025. Located in a stunning coastal setting, Shura Links will offer guests a world-class golfing experience, combining challenging design with breathtaking views. The course integrates natural desert landscapes with lush fairways and emphasizes sustainability, featuring innovative water management and eco-friendly practices. This course will be easily accessible to guests from all resorts on Shura Island and promises to be an unforgettable experience for both golf enthusiasts and nature lovers.

Sustainability at the Core: Minimizing Environmental Impact

Sustainability is at the core of the Shura Island development. The entire project is powered by renewable energy to minimize the environmental impact and help meet Saudi Arabia’s long-term sustainability goals. Careful attention is given to the design of the resorts and attractions to ensure that they blend harmoniously with the island’s pristine environment. Water management systems, eco-friendly materials, and waste reduction measures are incorporated into every aspect of the project, supporting the region’s commitment to sustainable tourism.

Moreover, the Coral Bloom design by world-renowned Foster + Partners is a direct reflection of the commitment to respect nature while providing luxury accommodations. This development serves as a model for future regenerative tourism projects worldwide.

Accessibility and Connectivity to Shura Island

Access to Shura Island will be through a marina or via electric vehicles across the stunning 3.3 km Shura Crossing, which includes Saudi Arabia’s longest internal bridge. The island will offer an immersive experience with pristine beaches, lagoons, and elevated hospitality options.

Additionally, the development benefits from the newly opened Red Sea International Airport (RSI), which is conveniently located within a three-hour flight from 250 million people and eight hours’ flying time from 85% of the world’s population. The airport currently accommodates domestic and international flights, and Qatar Airways will soon operate direct flights to RSI three times a week, further boosting accessibility for international tourists.

Luxury Residences on Shura Island

In addition to its resorts, Shura Island will also offer a collection of exclusive homes for sale. The first properties available for purchase on the island were announced earlier this year, with handovers expected by 2025. Residents will have access to all the island’s amenities, including its pristine beaches, golf course, and cultural programming. These luxury homes will also provide seamless access to the wider Red Sea destination and its iconic resorts.

These properties are designed for discerning buyers looking to own a piece of paradise in a world-class tourism destination. The homes will combine privacy and luxury while offering the convenience of being part of a larger, integrated resort community.

Economic Impact and Vision 2030 Goals

Beyond tourism, Red Sea Global’s developments, including Shura Island, are poised to have a significant economic impact on Saudi Arabia. The project is expected to create 120,000 new jobs, driving economic growth and supporting the Kingdom’s long-term goals outlined in Vision 2030. Through sustainable and responsible tourism development, Red Sea Global is helping to diversify Saudi Arabia’s economy, reduce its dependence on oil, and create opportunities for local communities.

Looking Ahead: The Future of Red Sea Global Destinations

Shura Island starts to welcome visitors, Red Sea Global is further building its portfolio of high-end, regenerative vacation spots, including AMAALA, which opens in 2025. With these kinds of projects, Red Sea Global is positioning Saudi Arabia as a destination that is integral to the global tourism industry, providing visitors with access to world-class resorts, sustainable tourism experiences, and life-changing destinations.
