4 Spring Break Trips Close to Northern Virginia

Spring break is approaching, and you don’t have to take a long vacation to enjoy the time with your family. With the kids out of school and the weather warming up, now is a great time to explore some nearby destinations in DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Here are four fun places, all within easy driving distance from Northern Virginia.

Annapolis

Drive time from Dulles: About 1 hour, 15 minutes

Maryland’s capital is conveniently close to Northern Virginia, and its location on the Chesapeake Bay offers a boatload of fun activities. Head to the waterfront to take part in activities like sailing, kayaking, and stand-up paddle boarding. You can also learn about the history and significance of the Chesapeake region on a walking tour of the waterfront neighborhood, which explores Annapolis’s historic area and the U.S. Naval Academy. For family-friendly dining with a view, make a reservation at Carrol’s Creek Cafe. Looking to stay overnight? Stay at the Annapolis Waterfront Hotel for the expansive views of the water.

Charlottesville

Drive time from Dulles: About 2 hours

What’s great about a family trip to Charlottesville is the many fun activities for kids and adults alike. Grab a bite at Sal’s Pizza or, for something on the more upscale side, Duner’s Restaurant. Downtown Roanoke

Drive time from Dulles: About 3.5 hours

Not up for traveling? When it comes to planning spring break activities, don’t overlook the opportunities that are just minutes away in DC. In the springtime, the easily walkable downtown area offers food, fun, history, and more. Head down to the Tidal Basin to admire the cherry blossoms and the Washington Monument. Then, check out kid-friendly museums like the National Air & Space Museum or the International Spy Museum. Be sure to stop by Piccolina for decadent Italian pastries and visit local ice cream shop Dolcezza for something sweet.
