Choppy seas, sunny skies ahead for OCMD’s 2025 White Marlin Open

It’s mostly sunny skies and rough seas ahead for White Marlin Open, the annual Ocean City, Maryland billfishing tournament billed as the world’s largest.

Due to potential offshore weather conditions, the big event has been extended by two days to include Saturday, Aug. 9, and Sunday, Aug. 10. The tournament was originally scheduled to take place from Aug. 4 through Aug. 8.

Tropical Storm Dexter, which was discovered on Sunday, Aug. 3, and located about 300 miles west-northwest of Bermuda, is contributing to choppy seas along the East Coast.

Besides rough seas, no hazardous weather is expected at this time from Tuesday through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service’s Monday, Aug. 4, weather outlook.

Here’s a closer look at the weather forecast for Ocean City this week:

Tuesday, Aug. 5:

The Weather Channel is calling for partly cloudy skies and a high of 79 degrees on Tuesday. Winds will blow ENE at 5 to 10 mph. Seas will be semi glassy in the morning before turning semi choppy with over 3-foot swells in the afternoon, according to Surf Captain.

Wednesday, Aug. 6:

Wednesday will see mostly cloudy skies with a high temperature of 77. Winds are predicted to pick up considerably, blowing ENE at 10 to 20 mph. Seas will be choppy, with swells reaching over 4 feet.

Thursday, Aug. 7:

Skies will be considerably cloudy on Thursday, with a slight chance of a rain shower. Temperatures will reach a high of 76, with winds gusting ENE at 10 to 20 mph. Seas will be choppy, with swells over 5 feet.

Friday, Aug. 8:

Friday will see intervals of clouds and sunshine, plus a slight chance of a rain shower. Temperatures will reach a high of 77, with winds moving ENE at 10 to 20 mph. Seas will be bumpy, with swells over 4 feet.

Saturday, Aug. 9:

Saturday’s forecast is calling for partly cloudy skies and a chance of rain showers. Temperatures will reach a high of 78. Winds are predicted to be calmer, blowing ENE at 10 to 15 mph. Seas will be choppy.

Sunday, Aug. 10:

Skies will be partly cloudy on Sunday, with rain showers possible once again. Temperatures will reach a high of 81. Winds are predicted to slow down, blowing E at 5 to 10 mph. Seas will be semi-choppy.
