It’s Official. This Viral Travel FAIL Is the Funniest Thing We’ve Seen All Year

Trust us, over the years we’ve made PLENTY of travel mistakes.

Orlando International Airport

When you travel as much as we do, it’s inevitable that you’ll make mistakes at some point or another with flight bookings, hotel reservations, cruise purchases, and more. But recently, a viral travel fail has really taken the cake as far as stories go!

E News reports that two TikTokers recently got sent to Tunis, Tunisia, after a mix-up at the airport when they were trying to go “to Nice” in France. The diversion cost them hours and an extra plane ticket to get back to their final destination.

TikToker Brittney Dzialo and her friend started their viral video in Rome, Italy, where they were at the airport after missing their original flight. They asked airport workers to get new tickets “to Nice” (which is pronounced like “neese”), and the employees misheard, booking them to the city of Tunis in Northern Africa. The travelers didn’t figure out the mistake until they boarded the plane and noticed that the headrests said “Tunisia.” From there, the flight attendant told them it was too late to get off the plane because their luggage had already been loaded.

Flying high in the sky

The resulting TikTok went viral as the girls had to fly to Africa, then book a new flight to France. Their travel mistake has been criticized by many, but clearly, it’s a possible problem to face when you’re in an unfamiliar place surrounded by people who don’t speak the same language as you. So what do you need to know to avoid an accident like this? We’re going to share some top tips!

First, make sure you always double and even triple-check your travel details when you book. Whether you’re booking online or speaking to someone at the airport counter, you’ll want to scour your boarding pass to make sure ALL information is accurate. Even something as simple as a birthdate being typed incorrectly can cause problems when you go through security.

Second, make sure you bring multiple forms of ID whenever you’re flying. I’ve lost my driver’s license in the airport in the past (had it fall out of a pocket), and BOY was that a pain. Check out accepted forms of ID before you travel, and bring something as a backup in addition to your driver’s license or passport.

Along those same lines, it’s a good idea to travel with multiple forms of payment. Make sure your bank knows if you’re traveling internationally so your purchases don’t get flagged, and always bring along the payment card that you originally used to purchase your flights (if possible). Some airports and airlines have policies where you need to have your original payment card present when making changes.

MCO lines

Another important tip is to share your travel and flight information with a friend or family member back home. Many flights have tracking options for those on the ground, and your loved ones can keep an eye on you in case of an emergency.

MCO Baggage Claim

It’s always a good idea to download your airline’s mobile app so you can get the latest updates and notifications. This tip has saved me many times when a gate number has been changed last minute or a flight has been canceled. Similarly, checking the app to rebook your flight in case of a cancellation can often be faster and less hassle than standing in line at the airport’s counter. (And that way, someone else won’t accidentally book you to the wrong city!)

With all those tips in mind, you’ll hopefully have a smooth travel experience.
