Lufthansa Takes Top Honors as World’s Most Family-Friendly Airline

Lufthansa has been awarded the prestigious title of the world’s most family-friendly airline, a recognition presented at the World Airline Awards 2025, hosted by Skytrax at the Paris Air Show. This accolade underscores Lufthansa’s commitment to delivering a seamless and enjoyable travel experience for families, making it a top choice for those flying with young children. In addition to this major win, Lufthansa’s First Class Terminal in Frankfurt was named the world’s best First Class Lounge, while its sister airlines, Austrian Airlines and Eurowings, also received well-deserved honors. Austrian Airlines took home the “Best Airline Staff in Europe” award, and Eurowings was recognized as the “Best Low-Cost Airline in Europe.”

Skytrax, a renowned market research institute specializing in the aviation industry, conducted a comprehensive survey of 22.3 million passengers from over 100 countries to determine the award winners. The results reflect the airline’s dedication to enhancing passenger comfort, service quality, and overall satisfaction.

“Lufthansa attaches great importance to ensuring that all guests on board feel comfortable with us – from Economy to First Class. I am therefore particularly pleased that we have received the award for the world’s most family-friendly airline and at the same time for the best First Class lounge,” says Heiko Reitz, Chief Customer Officer Lufthansa Airlines. “Above all, Lufthansa’s unsurpassed hospitality is also premium. In particular, our colleagues in the cabin, cockpit and on the ground can be very proud today. They are the ones who fulfill our promise of quality day after day.”

A Focus on Young Travelers

One of Lufthansa’s standout features is its dedication to ensuring that even the youngest travelers have an enjoyable experience onboard. The airline places great importance on creating a child-friendly environment that goes beyond simple amenities. Specially crafted kids’ menus are available on long-haul flights in all classes, and on short-haul flights for Business Class passengers. These menus are prepared by Gate Gourmet chefs and can be pre-ordered at no extra cost up to 24 hours before departure, ensuring that children are well-fed with nutritious, age-appropriate meals.

The meals are creatively presented, featuring vibrant illustrations of Lufthansa’s beloved mascots, “Lu” and “Cosmo.” These colorful designs not only engage children but also invite them to play and learn while on their journey. Each menu card includes fun activities, such as puzzles and coloring tasks, helping children understand how airplanes work in an entertaining and educational way.

In-Flight Entertainment and Special Gifts

Lufthansa goes the extra mile by introducing a new range of in-flight toys and activities for children. From cloud-shaped blankets designed for toddlers to engaging puzzles and games like “City, Country, Flight,” there’s something for all ages. Additionally, Lufthansa’s eJournals homepage offers a selection of downloadable coloring pages featuring Lu and Cosmo, and the airline provides children’s magazines in multiple languages to cater to the diverse backgrounds of young passengers.

The airline also boasts a wide array of kid-friendly entertainment, including films, TV series, music, audiobooks, and podcasts that will keep children entertained throughout the flight. For added comfort, Lufthansa provides special amenity kits for young travelers. Starting in the summer of 2025, the airline will introduce a new year-round children’s boarding pass, “Best Friend,” further reinforcing its dedication to making air travel enjoyable for children.

Lufthansa First Class: A Premium Travel Experience

While Lufthansa’s efforts to cater to families are truly exceptional, the airline’s premium offerings also set it apart as a leader in luxury travel. The award-winning First Class Terminal at Frankfurt Airport offers an exclusive experience that begins even before passengers board their flight. Travelers can enjoy a limousine transfer directly to the aircraft, accompanied by a personal assistant to attend to their needs. This luxurious service is a hallmark of Lufthansa’s premium class, setting the tone for a world-class travel experience.

For those flying in Lufthansa’s newly designed First Class, comfort and exclusivity reach new heights. The Lufthansa Allegris First Class suite, available on select long-haul flights starting in summer 2025, features two individual suites and the one-of-a-kind Suite Plus. These suites provide travelers with the ultimate in privacy and comfort. The suites are equipped with almost one-meter-wide seats that can be adjusted to suit individual preferences for heat or cooling. The cabins are enclosed with ceiling-high walls and lockable doors, ensuring complete privacy. Additionally, each suite boasts a large table, spacious seat, living room-sized screen, and wireless “over-ear” headphones, offering the utmost in entertainment and comfort.

The Suite Plus, a unique double cabin option, allows guests to combine two wide seats into a comfortable double bed if desired. This feature caters to those seeking a more intimate and luxurious experience, whether traveling solo or as a couple. Lufthansa’s First Class sets a new standard in private, individualized travel, making it the ideal choice for those looking for both exclusivity and unparalleled comfort.

Upcoming Upgrades and Premium Enhancements

Lufthansa’s focus on premium service is far from over. The airline is rolling out an ambitious upgrade plan for its First Class services, with renovations scheduled for the First Class check-in areas in Frankfurt and Munich by late summer 2025. Munich’s First Class Lounge will also undergo a redesign to offer an even more luxurious experience for travelers. These enhancements reflect Lufthansa’s dedication to maintaining its position at the forefront of the aviation industry, providing travelers with an unparalleled experience, whether they are flying with family or indulging in the height of luxury.

A Future-Oriented Airline

Lufthansa’s recent accolades are a testament to the airline’s ongoing commitment to excellence, not only in premium services but also in its dedication to making travel accessible and enjoyable for families. By offering a combination of exceptional amenities, kid-friendly features, and exclusive First Class services, Lufthansa continues to set the bar for the future of air travel. With its focus on delivering unparalleled comfort and service to all passengers, it’s no surprise that Lufthansa remains a leading choice for families and luxury travelers alike.
